Ares (also sometimes Mars) is a character appearing in DC Comics publications and related media. Based on the eponymous Greek mythological figure, he is the Olympian god of war and major recurring adversary of the superhero Wonder Woman.

He's the ultimate warrior among the pantheon of Jack Kirby's Fourth World , which makes him a fitting counterpart to Ares, the ancient Greek god of war.

War of the Gods is an American four-issue comic book mini-series published by DC Comics in 1991. Primarily centered on the character Wonder Woman, this storyline was intended to celebrate the character's 50th anniversary. It was written and drawn by George Pérez, who would leave the Wonder Woman (vol. 2) title following this storyline with #62.
